No, New York City is not an island apart from the Bronx. The Bronx is actually one of the five boroughs of New York City, and it is connected to the rest of the city by land. Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island are all boroughs of New York City, but they each have distinct characteristics. Queens is the largest borough in terms of area and is known for its diverse population and neighborhoods. Brooklyn is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, as well as its historic brownstone buildings. Long Island is not a borough of New York City, but rather a large island to the east of the city, known for its suburban communities, beaches, and wineries. **

The Bronx has a reputation for being a dangerous area in New York, but like any urban area, it has both safe and less safe neighborhoods. While there are some areas with higher crime rates, there are also many safe and vibrant neighborhoods in the Bronx. Like any city, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions, but the Bronx is not uniformly dangerous. **
